My name is Sam Aebi and I am a 19-year-old graphic designer from Lucerne, Switzerland. I am currently in my third of four years of studies at the graphic design school called Fachklasse Grafik in Lucerne. My structured and organized way of thinking allows me a lot of freedom and does not restrict me. With an affinity for new technologies, I enjoy dealing with the future of design. The knowledge of the so called old craft serves as the basis for this future-oriented design. A critical and conceptual design which, however, remains down-to-earth, is important to me. My interest in design, new media, politics and society is complemented by a love for nature and people.

A campaign and design concept for various media was developed for the demand for a referendum. The initiative focuses on the optimal use of solar energy in Switzerland. 32 degrees is the optimal angle of solar panels for electricity production. The aim of the 32 degree initiative is to equip all national roads that meet the requirements with solar panels. The entire design concept is based on this 32 degree angle. The simple typography at a 32 degree angle, supplemented by isometric illustrations, gives the initiative a unique appearance. This project was realised in cooperation with Lynne Kopp and Max Fingerhuth. My main work was conception, illustration and animation.

Within three weeks, a collection of illustrations showing life around a roundabout was created for a publication. This roundabout is one of the busiest in Central Switzerland. It is located in the middle of a multicultural neighbourhood, in which living together is promoted. The four-page brochure concentrates on one minute of this coexistence and is based on data collected on site for three weeks. Looking at the quick drawings, for which I spent an average of 5.6 seconds, one notices that this life takes place mainly in the traffic of the roundabout. Due to the slight transparency of the paper, the individual illustrations are mixed together and also reflect the diversity of the neighbourhood.

For the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts a poster was developed for the master's concerts in the field of music. The master's degree concerts are the highlight of the music studies. Height lines projected onto acoustic foam emphasize the importance of the concerts. The surface of acoustic foam is reminiscent of mountains and deforms the typography into vibrating tones. This project was realized in collaboration with Lynne Kopp and Max Fingerhuth. My main work in this project related to typography and photography.

For a publication on the Square Violet in Paris, the investigation of the book as an object was in the foreground. For two weeks I analyzed and documented the Square Violet in Paris down to the last detail. The park is located in a bourgeois quarter and is a park like any other. The central point of the park is a pedestal without a statue. This pedestal became the main actor in the publication. The publication deals with the following question: What happens if something is placed on a pedestal? In producing the black pedestal, I deliberately chose a volume paper and a Japanese binding to give the content the shape of a pedestal.

As part of a study trip, I spent two weeks looking for new innovations in the Stoke Newington area of North London. Stoke Newington looks perfect from the outside. A major change is not needed at the moment and there is almost nothing negative about it. What's noticeable, is that almost all the front gardens are unused. Various packages have been designed as a solution for the new use of the front gardens. The project was exhibited in September 2018 as part of an exhibition at the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom and the Swiss cultural fund UK in London.

For the New Year's Message 2019 of the National Poster Advertising Company of Switzerland, a poster on the subject of sharing was designed. When viewing the well-known advertising medium, the printed poster, the viewer believes to be unobserved. The poster called watching you questions this security with a harmless but oversized camera. The poster was printed as a 3-colour poster in the special colours silver and Pantone 185 C in screen printing and hung up throughout Switzerland for over two months.

With a kind of travel guide about the different quarters of London, the future of the traditional book was experimented on. On the homepage londoncostumizer.co.uk readers can compile their personal publication about London without getting an insight into the content. The subtopics are divided into quarters and authors. The software is optimized for a broad user group and can be produced with practically any home printer. The advantages and disadvantages of advanced digitisation in book design will become the main topic of this project.

In a photographic project, a newspaper was created on the subject of memory. The memory of an ice cream melting at high temperatures is familiar to everyone from their childhood. The result was four different pictures at four different temperatures. Through the separation and rearrangement of the images, a new world of images emerges from a combination of frozen and melted ice creams. The picture series was reproduced several times in newspaper printing.

An envelope for a limited special edition of a lesson planner was created for a Swiss publishing house. The purpose of this lesson planner is to help teachers create a creative, innovative and well-structured lesson. The many abstract forms and grids of the cover were all created from various everyday teaching materials, such as the geo triangle or the staples of a stapler. These different parts reflect the diversity of the teaching and are intended to encourage creative planning. This project was realized in collaboration with Nina Karli and Max Fingerhuth.

For a series of pictures printed in a publication, I staged a self-portrait with four attributes. Today's society judges a person who is often perceived only through external attributes. On average, the first impression of a person is made within a tenth of a second. The question true or false? calls these attributes into question and the viewer is forced to get to know the person personally.

The Weltformat Graphic Design Festival takes place every year in Lucerne. Two parallel poster workshops are organized by my graphic design school the Fachklasse Grafik. In 2017, Studio Mut developed a poster series on everyday disturbing factors. The approach was to arrive from a digital starting position to non-digital results. In 2018, Eike König's workshop focused on the exchange between various international students. The analogue printing technique gave the participants an insight into Eike König's work. The results were exhibited at the Weltformat Graphic Design Festival in Lucerne.
